My daughter graduated from this school and told us last night it is a very mellow campus and very gay-tolerant. Something like this would be quite an aberration. They even have an officially supported and staffed GLBTA Pride Center, http://www.bridgew.edu/GLBTA, which is more than just a typical student club. There is proactive involvement and leadership by faculty and administration in a Diversity Council and Pride Coalition.
The sad news is that, even in a place like this, located in the first state to legalize SSM 8 years ago, crap like this can happen over something as simple as a fairly mild editorial, here – http://www.bsccomment.com/opinion/prop-8-generate…. All students need to be able to relax and be themselves. An incident like this can put a big dent in their confidence and sense of safety. God knows what less progressive states must be like.
