Housekeeping: Survey reminder

October 25, 2011

By Adam Bink

I’ll be doing these reminders all week in case anyone misses it, but don’t forget to take our feedback survey on the state of Prop8TrialTracker.com. Your opinion really counts.

In other news, I join many of you in wishing the Nov. 8th election were upon us sooner so our Google Alerts would be less clogged with Prop 8 stuff that isn’t about the Prop 8 we think it’s about. Not that we don’t love water in Texas or anything.

This is an open thread.

Towleroad.com has a report of NOM using old photos of Obama rallies in Columbus, Ohio and St. Louis in a way the is intended to misrepresent them as NOM rallies and the tremendous popular support behind NOM. These people have no shame! One of the photos was a Reuters photo. I'm going to email Reuters and see if NOM got their apprval to use what I imagine is copyrighted material.

I filled out the survey, and though it required me to THINK (gulp) for a few moments, I was grateful for a chance to speak my piece. Y'all better go fill it out too, or I'll be the only one and my knucklehead opinion will be the Boss of Here!!!

Yeeeeah, wazzup with that? It gets better because we love the sinner though still won't vote to let you legally marry based on your presumptive sin?? Someone post their upcoming votes on our issues to see if they're still up to their Anti-Gay Business As Usual…..

"Often the focus of the marriage debate is on LGBT adults, said Family Equality Council executive director Jennifer Chrisler. “But here you have a comprehensive set of data and recommendations that focus on those who are impacted most," she said. "One cannot ignore the fact that these two million children exist, and that laws and regulations haven’t kept pace [with LGBT families]. … It’s very important that we engage in a deeper discussion with our elected officials and policymakers.”

I filled it out the other day…. I indicated I don't care to read about everything-NOM….however, comments in previous post caused me to eat my words a bit as I appreciated learning about the "borrowed" Obama rally photo Jeremy uncovered so I can take action….simply outrageous!

Since this is an open thread….yesterday I attended company benefits fair. As some of you know I waged a 3-year campaign to get domestic partner benefits at a company I work for. I succeeded in 2010, BUT going on 2nd year of including D.P:

    - only 2 persons(out of 6 I interviewed) @ the benefit fair were knowledgeable about Domestic P. B.
    - no one could provide domestic partner rates, but offered to research and email to me, if I emailed them to remind them….
    - one person agreed it wasn't fair they charge more but continued to call my HUSBAND "Domestic Partner" (I used the term "husband" several times during the fair…P.S.- I was married this past June and one definite benefit being married it is sure a lot less confusing in many instances to be able to use the term "husband"!)
    - one person mentioned a benefit of not having marriage recognized with Health Savings accounts . There is an annual maximum contribution per family, this amount is doubled as my "domestic partner" is not considered family. This actually is helpful as I understand it because this is the only option I can choose to take a pre-tax deduction for my "D.P." …I'll research further to see if this is accurate.

I got the rates this morning for D.P. : (
plan for family that cost ZERO for FAMILY…..to add my husband $161.00 every 2 weeks
plan for family that costs $90 for FAMILY….add add'l $234.00 every 2 weeks

BOTTOM LINE: I am taxed at a higher rate because marriage not recognized, yet charged more for insurance = EXTORTION!

DOMA MUST GO AWAY! EQUALITY NOW!

  • 17. Gregory in SLC  |  October 26, 2011 at 7:51 am

Took time to read comments. Even though marriage is legal country-wide, Canada has bigots too, which demonstrates even when DOMA goes away and equality is established we will still need to educate and fight prejudice.

You know, I think we should all take "love the sinner, hate the sin" to heart. Well, actually, just the first part of it. When someone says we should "love the sinner…" before they can get the rest of it out, we should say "I do. Passionately!"

Then hit them with "Hate is not a family value."
    :)

  • 20. Elizabeth_Oakes  |  October 26, 2011 at 8:42 am

I just reply honestly: I don't believe in the concept of sin, and it's hard to believe you really love someone when you're actively conspiring (and voting) to deprive them of social justice.

Usually shuts that rhetoric down, and that's all that cute aphorism is: rhetoric. Actions speak louder than parroted words. Call them on it.

Superior Tribunal de Justica do Brasil: "sexual orientation should not serve as a pretext for excluding families from the legal protection that marriage represents" Bravo!
Brazil is the largest Catholic nation, has deep misogynistic history, has the righest rates of hate crimes against homossexuals in the globe, what makes me question, WTF is wrong with the "LAND OF THE FREE"!!!!
