Baltimore half-marathon!

Post-half marathon mimosa, homemade rolls and a medal!

As many of you know, Courage Campaign is a virtual organization and we organize with our members mostly by e-mail, social media and phone. But we’ve done a lot of offline events in the past and lately, a great deal more (see Bachmann, flash mob and Boehner, Occupy Golf Course).

So we’re going to do another one, and something different: the 2012 Honda Los Angeles Marathon on March 18, 2012. And we hope you can join us! It’s to benefit our work fighting to repeal DOMA, end Prop 8, and keep making progress on other LGBT issues!

I just ran my first half-marathon in Baltimore a week ago today, and it was a great experience (I ran in 2:03:44, which people tell me is not bad for a first run!). And, as you can see on the right, we all got medals and to dig in at a post-race brunch :-) Incredible energy and fun, especially the people on the sidelines dressed up for Halloween as zombies and holding “Run for your lives!” signs.

For the Los Angeles Marathon, we already have 34 folks signed up for Team Courage to raise money to fight for full LGBT equality and run. You can run the full 26.2 miles, or you can grab a friend, family member or co-worker and run 13.1 with the rest of Team Courage and your partner runs the other 13.1 with the rest of the gang (relay-style, which the LA Marathon is offering for the first time this year). You can run, walk, or run/walk. Either way you cut it, it’ll be a blast.

Courage Campaign will pay for registration costs, get Team Courage t-shirts for our team, and we’re throwing a big carbo-load dinner the night before, too. The race course has no hills as it winds its way from Dodgers Stadium through the attractions of LA to the Pacific Ocean. And, it’s St. Patrick’s Day the day before, so we’re, uh, gonna make a fun weekend out of it :-)

Sign up here to get more information. We can only hold the first 100 spots, and are asking more members soon, but I wanted to give everyone here a chance to think about it and sign up. Drop me a line via prop8trial at couragecampaign dot org if you have any questions or want to know more.

Hope to see you in March!
