Any ideas why the proponents didn't object to this happening?

Off topic in the first comment – sorry!
Two items in the article below are of note: Washington State's court found NOM et al's disclosure case [harassment concerns] to be without merit, and NOM and its proxies are at it again with challenging disclosure laws in Minnesota. Just how many similar court decisions against them does it take to recognize that initiating another similar case is an abuse of judicial process? http://washingtonindependent.com/113904/supporter…

Help us fight a ‘frivolous and blatant attempt to chill free speech’
"Controversial anti-gay minister Bradlee Dean and his evangelical band/ministry You Can Run But You Cannot Hide International (YCR) are suing The American Independent News Network’s senior reporter, Andy Birkey, and are threatening to also sue our site The Minnesota Independent. Rachel Maddow, who also reported about Dean on her MSNBC show, is also named in the suit, which seeks $50 million in damages."

Do you mean the emergency stay of the order releasing the recordings? If so.. as you probably know, there's a temporary stay in place, but there's been no final decision yet on granting a stay pending appeal. The issue has now been fully briefed, including a brief from the media coalition and we're waiting for the Court's decision.

There was a hearing scheduled in the Golinski case for this Friday, but that's been moved to December 16.

Yes, the temporary stay is what I was referring to… the brief I was reading referred to it as an emergency stay.
That is where I gathered we were, I was just hoping that someone had some inside info or that I had missed an indication of when they would decide. I mean it is temporary and they decided an issue that was briefed at the same time (media coalitions intervention), so it can't be long… right?
Ugh… I really wanna see those tapes.

I think they learned their legal tactics by watching the Westboro bunch.

I have a question regarding the stay on the release of the recordings. If this stay is lifted does that mean that the recordings will become available to the public fairly quickly?
If that's the case then I couldn't really imagine what the proponents could possibly do to stop them from becoming viral within hours of release. Even if they appealed the ruling somehow the damage would already be done, right?

Excellent reporting. They neglect to mention that the names have already been released.

NC State University Passes Resolution Opposing Anti-Gay Marriage Amendment Following Campus Hate Crime: http://www.towleroad.com/2011/10/nc-state-univers…
"An act of vandalism directed toward North Carolina State University's LGBT group in which "F*GS BURN" and "DIE" was spray painted across a door and showcase has prompted the student governement to pass a resolution opposing the proposed amendment constitutionally banning same-sex marriage in the state, WTVD reports"
NC State Students Pass Resolution Against Marriage Amendment: http://www.advocate.com/News/Daily_News/2011/10/2…
The resolutions says, “The proposed amendment has vague and untested wording which will result in a significant period of time and state money spent on court cases to determine the meaning of the bill. North Carolina State University Student Government strongly encourages our state legislature to focus on more important matters at hand including stimulating job growth, hurricane relief and education."
(me) 29-6 in favor of the resolution….. Awesome… keep up the pressure….. <3…Ronnie

Holland, Michigan Pastor Arrested for 'Occupying' City Hall Over Council's Refusal to Enact LGBT Anti-Discrimination Laws: http://www.towleroad.com/2011/10/holland-michigan…
Gay Holland, Michigan pastor was released from jail last night after being arrested protesting the City Council's refusal to expand anti-discrimination statutes to include LGBT people, The Grand Rapids Press reports:
Freeman, minister of Interfaith Congregation, was arrested Wednesday night after he refused to leave City Hall. He has worked to expand the city's anti-discrimination ordinance to include gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people. Police had twice asked him to leave the city building but he refused. He was handcuffed and taken to the Ottawa County Jail.

Except when Westboro goes to court, they win. They do so because they are all lawyers, and they are EXTREMELY careful to stay centimeters inside the letter of the law.

That may seem a little surprising, but notice that there are a mix of left- and right- leaning and unaffiliated news groups. It would piss off Fox News to no end to have them fight against them. (just my speculation)
24.
Kate | October 20, 2011 at 9:07 am
Maybe that's it. It just stuns me that the proponents actually agreed to let the media intervene. They fight EVERYTHING.

You are right about NYC… The Gay Pride parade, for instance, has become a fun thing to take the kids to. I have RARELY run into rampantly homophobic behavior in NYC, and there are many fine organizations, Gay Men's Health Crisis, for instance, that are based here and that get a lot of general support from the community.
The SAGE center will be a great resource, as we do have a large LGBT community, and by default, some of them are elderly. This is good news!

I already ordered the DVD with the list of names from the SOS in Washington. Pidgeon can appeal all he wants, but I will have my copy before the appeal can even get off the ground.

AnonyGrl | October 20, 2011 at 4:50 pm
Well, yes. But if the ruling goes against the proponents, there is likely to be an ADDITIONAL stay to allow them time to appeal to the US Supreme Court, for that very reason. Eventually, when the US Supreme Court rules against them, the tapes will be released and then they will undoubtedly go viral quickly.
