DOMA repeal organizer to visit White House

This is one of our intrepid Courage state coordinators for DOMA repeal — Joshua Loker, organizing in Texas — and he’s invited to attend Wednesday’s Pride month reception at the White House. Joshua has been doing great work organizing on the ground to educate the public and bring more Senators on to DOMA repeal, and this helps recognize that important work. Congrats to Josh.
We have now 75 coordinators in 46 states, volunteering several hours a month to organize on the ground for DOMA repeal. We can always use more! The reason that this is so important is that even though the number of couples in states with marriage equality has now doubled post-New York, they still have no access to over 1,100 federal rights because of DOMA. And that helps us build pressure to repeal this law. We now have 27 Senators onboard, and for a full list of them, check out the DOMA graphic on the right side of this blog near the top.

One hand helps the other. A court ruling could easily rule against LGBT people. It could help. Momentum on congressional action helps spur the courts, as we know. I will also reiterate this is a multi-year campaign… DOMA repeal in the House is very tough in the next year and a half. Meanwhile, growing our numbers one by one helps.

Alan, on the other hand having the people of the state of California vote on marriage equality and that initiative passing in our favor would go a long way in silencing the likes of NOM and their claim that "the people voted 31 times and in every case, they voted to protect marriage" While I would like to see the residents of CA have the freedom to marry, I would like to see it happen in a way that could not be reversed later as they have gone back and forth too many times already.

So I have an idea, as a non active pastor I can tell you like any business the church needs to pay for staff and services, most are hurting economically theses days. So here is want you do run a campaign that all supporters of same sex marriages and gay rights stop tithing for 6 months. The impact would be amazing and church leaders would be forced to revisit there views. 10% at a time, 10% at a time most churches theses days are operating on reserves. Especially if they tell father (old and dumb ass) that the 105 will be going to support the right thing to do. Hell do like NOM does use the kids just say your / my church is creating a community that is not protecting children and refusing loving couples the right to raise healthy happy christian children.

But didn't the people vote when they decided which senator was going to represent them and their district. If we also consider that there were five senators that went against their party, could we also conclude that Sen. Diaz's constitutiants were robbed as well? I for one am glad that a republican finally voted for what is right and just instead of what all the people with money that can buy their way into the senators office want.

The fight to do the right thing is being attacked by religious views and churches that donated millions to fight same sex. All I am saying is you can address the political view. I believe one approach is to passively raise the support of all the gay people and family members in church to just stop giving till they see change. Don't stop going just stop being quite. Only the Catholic's and Mormons will kick you out for disagreeing yet there pews are full of gays it's time they learn how many people are really not following doctrine.

Here's the problem, Jimi. I suspect that most of us who support marriage equality are not attending a hate-promoting church. My little MCC congregation will run out of money for good at the end of August unless we have a huge sea change and more people start attending. This church community is the first one I've ever seen that does what Jesus taught (feeding the hungry, etc.) … and it's going under for financial reasons.

I would really like to see him do that after he gets re-elected by his voters, that way he could say that "As a republican, I voted for Marriage Equality and got re-elected"

I think it's a good idea,,,,, everyone who is a member of a non=affirming church,,,, which would exempt, those you speak for Fiona,,,,, those of us, who were raised and still are members of churchs that discriminate,,,, could re-establish our membership,,,, so we get those little envelopes for tithing,,,, then fill them with rainbow stickers,,,, or a story or something,,,, and start plugging those churches with them,,, ie. when the treasurer opens the weekly donations to count and add,,, they'll see and feel the message,,,, right now all of us who have left churches have no way of being counted by them,,,,,,,,,,,and it is all about the money……
