Rep. Patrick Murphy and his request

March 24, 2011

By Adam Bink

As I wrote yesterday, we just finished up a great period of fundraising to maintain the site here at Prop8TrialTracker.com. 158 of you chipped in to keep us going.

There is an even deeper, more sustaining need: which is becoming a monthly donor. For the cost of a few cups of coffee per month, you can give us a regular  source of funding so that we start out each month saying “here’s what we have to work with. What can we do?” and know that we can film a video, or run a training, or organize a rally, without worrying about whether we can pay for it.

What’s in it for you? First, it helps result in less urgent needs to raise money. Second, we can have a regular source of money to work on Prop 8, DOMA, and certification of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” repeal. Third, you’ll get even more regular updates on what we’re doing, how we’re spending your money, and where we’re going.

We worked together here at P8TT with Rep. Patrick Murphy before to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”. We asked him to come on a nationwide conference call with you and Courage Campaign members and he did it because he believed in the work we were doing on the outside, in concert with what he was doing on the inside. Let’s do it again on Prop 8, DOMA, and certification of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” repeal.

Please become a monthly contributor today.

I pledged a few dollars a month. I got a special thank you note from Michael Bridges. It made me feel good.

Can the donation be set for a particular day each month? The money won't be on my card until the 10th of each month, but I want to do what I can.

A couple of links – I know I can only post one link at a time, so I apologize for doing this in multiple posts…

There was great letter in the Indiana University student newspaper from a young Republican that illustrates really well the changing attitudes of the younger generation.

We certainly lost a great advocate in Congress when Patrick Murphy lost in last year's election.

Richard, the charge will recur on the same day every month as which you make the first charge. So if you signed up today, it would come out on the 24th each month. If you signed up tomorrow, on the 25th of each month. And so forth. Hope that helps, and let me know if you have any more questions, and thank you for helping sustain our work.

    We did.

Murphy lost all my respect for his work on DADT repeal when he voted against the Dream Act.

Thanks, Adam. I will do one on the 10th of April, and then the recurring one will have to be done on the 10th of May because we are getting new cards to use.

I pledged monthly as well and got a "Thanks" note from Michael and Rick. I was really shocked that they would take the time from their busy schedule to send a note to lil 'ol me.

I used to give "on the fly" based on reading the stories and following along with the news each and every day.

But if you have the capability to step up and pledge whatever you can monthly – it really helps them as they now have a steady contribution that they can count on for all of the excellent work that they do.

I know what I pledged is peanuts compared to others – that's ok. In my own way, I know that anything I can do to help goes a long way to provide the tools needed for them to fight the good fight for us.

Big hugs to Adam, Michael, Rick, and everyone else at the P8TT. We all are truly blessed to have you doing what you do for us each and every day!
