NOM’s race chatter is obvious and disturbing. In #Marryland it hit a new high/low

In the National Organization for Marriage’s post-Maryland-vote press release, president Brian Brown outrageously accuses Republican equality supporter Sen. Allan Kittleman of “implying that his fellow Republicans are the moral equivalent of racists for upholding marriage as the union of husband and wife.” Then, two sentences later, chair Maggie Gallagher says this:
“Delegate Emmett Burns told the press he was called the N-word for failing to vote the way white urban liberals wanted him to vote. The courage of these Democrats is extraordinary and very inspiring to those of us in the forefront of the battle to protect marriage,” said Maggie Gallagher, Chairman of NOM.
NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR MARRIAGE CONGRATULATES MARYLAND LEGISLATURE FOR DEFENDING MARRIAGE [NOM]
Okay. So let’s unpack this truly nasty, purposely divisive race card that Maggie and Brian keep exploiting for selfish, hurtful gain.
First component: With no basis whatsoever, Brian makes this Kittleman accusation. In truth, Sen. Kittleman has been nothing by respectful in his comments on marriage equality and why he supports it. In his official comment on the matter, he was sure to “respect the fact that people have differing opinions on this issue.” He simply holds a personal belief that civil marriage is something that should be afforded to all couples, regardless of sexual orientation. Regardless of personal religious belief.
Then moving on to Maggie and Del. Burns: Look at what she is so disgustingly doing her. Not only is Ms. Faux Victimization echoing Del. Burns’ truly myopic and truly myopic sentiments that falsely pit one form of harassment/hassling against another, but Maggie takes it one step further, throwing in her old “white urban liberal” lines. The exact same line she used against then-AG, now-Governor Jerry Brown when she was trying to divide along race lines in the days post Prop 8. Maggie knows that marriage finds strong support in communities that are neither white nor urban nor liberal — she just doesn’t care. She and Brian are far more concerned with dividing and conquering than accuracy or unity. More concerned with spinning false, cover-providing narratives than focusing on the merits of equal protection under the constitution.
It’s gross. And it’s way past time for people to call them out on it.
***
*Let’s not forget Maggie’s nasty Indian American accusation
***
*They’ve even worked these canards in places like NY, where the African-American caucus was far and away pro-equality.

That is because these momser gonifs will use any cheating, lying, stealing tactic they are allowed to get away with in order to win in the short term. Of course, I am truly looking forward to the day when they go too far for even their teabagger friends to put up with them and they are relegated to the dustbin of history where they belong.

"…Maggie and Brian keep exploiting for selfish, hurtful gain."
"Selfish" and "hurtful," don't forget "financial" in there, too. That's certainly the most important aspect of it all for them.

When we hear Maggie say outrageous, racially insensitive things, we're shocked. When she says them, she's playing to NOM's cronies who are fierce in their religion and their ethnicity. They agree with every word.

Considering the abuses heaped upon the children in this family, I have to wonder why no authorities have ever stepped in and tried to take the children away. The whole family is a cult, basically, and if even one child had a bruise or scar from being abused, they should be able to prosecute. Are the authorities scared of this jerk Fred Phelps?
It was great that he and his "church" were called out legally for what they have done to harm the idea of free speech, but in the end, they really do have a right to say what they want. But no one has the "right" to beat children, starve them, or abuse them in any way. This man should not be at a pulpit–he should be in jail.

After suffering a hail storm of judicial defeats, I say let them enjoy the one battle they do win. Their victories are getting fewer and farther between.
In the meantime, keep donating, keep dialing, and keep coming out. We will not be defeated. There is only one possible way this struggle will end.

I am very happy to hear that two of the family members escaped. I hope the girl who was recaptured tried again and succeeded, but it doesn't sound like it. I can imagine one of the family members murdering "dear old Dad" sometime.

A little tongue and cheek –
After their recent win in Maryland stopping same sex marriage, the NOM (No On Marriage for all) organization has petitioned the dictionary giants: Oxford English, American Heritage, Webster and have demanded the definition of marriage be redefined.
The current definitions of marriage are:
• noun: the act of marrying; the nuptial ceremony
• noun: two people who are married to each other
• noun: the state of being a married couple voluntarily joined for life (or until divorce)
• noun: a close and intimate union
NOM wants the new definitions of marriage to be
• noun: the act of marrying only one man and one woman; the nuptial ceremony
• noun: two people of which one is a man and the other is a woman who are married to each other
• noun: the state of being a married couple of which one is a man and the other is a woman voluntarily joined for life (or until divorce)
• noun: a close and intimate union of one man and one woman
NOM further proposes that the use of the word marriage as applied to the joining of things such as music and dance or Mac and Cheese or same sex couples should be avoided or could be replaced with civil unions where not illegal.
“NOM needs to be stopped” according to Mac and Cheese, concerned citizens, "because the definition of marriage has a long tradition and NOM does not have the right to redefine marriage for all of us."

Maggie Gallagher isn't funny, like the comedian Gallagher. But, for some reason, I can't seem to shake the image of her smashing fruits with a sledge hammer from my mind.

@Nicole
"Give them an inch and they will willingly take a yard"
I'm not sure letting NOM 'enjoy battle(s) they do win' is the appropriate response. 'Fewer and farther between victories' is no reason to allow them to gloat.
Your analogy of war is a double edge sword. NOM's actions do have causalities, do harm innocent people, and leave others fearful. But the war analogy of ' battles', 'victories' 'wins' elevates them to being formable and legitimate players; if not lead actors, when evidence indicates they are not.
Perhaps the theatre of war that you had in mind is the hearts and ideas of the American people. Three core messages used by them in California, Maine, RI, Maryland and elsewhere are: LGBTs are not US. Their values, lifestyle, understanding of God’s expectations are not compatible with ours. There are costs to acquiescing to LGBTs’ self-serving agenda; it puts even young children at risk.
Is this not the same inclusion/exclusion paradigm used against the Black American minority? Is it not currently being employed against President Obama: not born here, is Muslim, raised in an alien culture, can’t ever share our aspirations?
I support Courage Campaign’s current strategies in countering NOM’s influence. At the local level, it's putting family face and voice against sterotypes. At the state level, it’s capacity building. At the national level, it's challenging NOM’s credibility among its peer professional lobbying organizations, and its adherence to IRS requirements. Co-ordination of advocacy messages and action among LGBT advocacy groups is equally important.
NOM spokespersons use the media for impression management. The listener hears what reinforces his beliefs. Courage and other must match each of their press releases with the actual story, told by everyday persons. Well, if not every release, as many as is doable.
No, I for one do not favour letting NOM frame Maryland as their win – unchallenged. Next week, they will use it and LGBTs not being US(A) propaganda in RI.
Just saying. G

I don't think any of them will off Fred Phelps, because they have no where to go after he's gone. The church has become their lives. In one of the documentaries (I think) one of them said that if they weren't out picketing, they didn't know what they'd do.

There are days I would like to smash MAGGIE with a big sledge hammer… were I only the violent sort. Since I am not, and don't advocate violence, I will just run with your imagry, and the end result involves her covered in bits of pulp and rind, and soaked with juice.
Next to an ant hill.
OK, ok… they can be non-biting ants, if you like.

It's really cute to breakdown these lies for the gays, but what about the general public? Why aren't we bringing these things to their attention? Saying it here is preaching to the choir. Instead of going to the public with "why marriage equality is important to us," how about "this is what the opposition does to trick people." We are such BABIES!! Does ANYONE have any cojones anymore? I think I'll stop donating to these causes until something that actually makes a significant impact on people who are on the fence about gay marriage is done. NOMExposted was a good idea, but who is going to look at that besides us??? No wonder we come off as so weak.
